Part 1:
What were two points from this week's reading that stood out to you as particularly important and interesting?
Why so?
Two points from this week's reading that stand out as particularly important and interesting are media convergence and media futures. All of the changes in media and communication during the past century may be attributed to the quick growth of technology. Additionally, this is a cultural and technological development that is accelerated due to the nature of evolution. The media supports our way of life by, for example, giving us instant access to information about local or international events. Even if media pictures have numerous benefits, we must be careful not to unwittingly be derived from them. We must exercise prudence while employing the media.
Converged media refers to the transmission of content across numerous media platforms in a single ecosystem, which complements the functioning of other platforms rather than obviating them. This important media trend is presently the subject of news attention.
Part 2:
Do we want media to “disappear”? Why? Why not?
We do not want media to "disappear". A medium of communication is referred to as media if it incorporates the usage of the internet or other sources that employ several branches to allow the international connection. for people all across the world. They provide a number of advantages in terms of quickness, comfort, and time and effort savings. Additionally, people have a platform to showcase their abilities and better themselves thanks to the media (Prasanna, 2022).
When is realism not the goal of particular media texts (give specific examples)?
The media take something that's real and manipulated its form to suit a specific purpose, and we end up doing something very different from the original but still do not change the meaning and purpose of the texts. For example, the movie Avatar expresses the far-reaching desires of people with the boundless creativity of people. Although through the film, realism is not very present, it is not the goal of specific media texts.
In your own words, describe what is meant by media convergence
Media convergence is the simple term for the blending of many kinds of mass communication, including digital media platforms, traditional media, print media, broadcast media, new media, and the internet, as well as a mobile and highly interactive technology.
What are some specific examples of converged media that you have engaged with lately? Be sure to note how they demonstrate convergence (i.e. what media forms/technologies do they merge?)
I have lately worked on a variety of convergent media projects, some of which include news applications, websites, and cell phones. With the convergent form of communication technology, they meld. The term "technology convergence" refers to the blending of previously unrelated technologies, frequently in a single gadget. Smartphones are arguably the finest illustration of this kind of convergence because they include photography, music, the internet, books, and all other forms of media (Garry Kranz, 2021). With a smartphone, we may stay informed, read the news, listen to music, be entertained, communicate, and share information. This provides instant, quick, handy, and up-to-date material while expanding the constraints of conventional media by fusing it with new media.
